HDPE dunnage sets are generally used for heavy parts. The material can be fabricated into dividers or can be machined into dunnage assemblies like this example. This engineered solution holds heavy cast metal brake components. Due to the heavy nature of the part and rough handling conditions of the working environment a robust solution was sought by the customer.
To accommodate this uniquely sized SCHAEFGUARD solution SSI created a custom tote by cutting and welding a standard tote from our NF container line. The machined HDPE dunnage set positions the part for increased ergonomics allowing for easy loading and unloading of the part.
Other options to ship this type of part would be expendable one use packaging that does not offer a return on the packaging investment. Paper corrugated would not be as robust and could lead to part damage or even part loss. This HDPE solution will hold up extensive abuse and ensure the part is well protected for many return shipments.
