This type of dunnage is designed primarily for for metal parts or parts with sharp edges. By coating the foam it prevents the sharp edges from degrading the foam through direct contact. The foam keeps the set light and inexpensive. The polyurea provides a protective skin to enhance integrity and life of the set.
In the past customers may have used cardboard as a single use which had no ROI or High Density Polyethylene that was heavy and during handling and transportation created shavings when sharp parts came into contact with it.
